MAIDSTONE & DISTRICT TRIPLES LEAGUE
The Maidstone and District Short Mat Triples League was founded in 1987 and is drawn from clubs in the Maidstone and Medway area. By 1999 the league had expanded to five divisions and encompassed clubs from Grain, in the north, New Ash Green, in the west, Marden, in the south to Lenham in the east. A total of 23 clubs then entered teams into the league with a number of clubs entering more than one team. By 2005 the league had contracted to four divisions of six teams, made up of 18 different clubs. In 2016 the number of teams entered into the league was 20, playing in 4 divisions with 5 teams per division.
The league format is three teams of triples playing over 11 ends on a home and away basis. The scoring system is 2 points a mat win, 1 point for a mat draw and 4 points for aggregate shots. Promotion and relegation of one team between divisions occurs at the end of each season.
The Messer Cup, a knockout cup competition consisting of two triples, is also competed for. The cup scoring format differs from the league in that the winning team is decided on aggregate shots scored.
